There is perhaps no group that has been more successful at popularizing traditional, brass-based Mexican Banda music than Banda MS (short for Banda Sinaloense MS de Sergio Lizarraga). Banda MS’ concerts are known to feature rancheras (traditional Mexican songs performed with one guitar and one singer), but they also include Mexican pop and classic rock music. The band's shows are loud, brassy and energetic. People buy tickets to Banda MS' tour if they're looking to have a good time. The group most recently released a 10th anniversary record, 10 Aniversario, celebrating the best music the band has released during the decade since their inception.
Banda MS is considered a regional Mexican band, and they were officially formed in Mazatlan, Sinaloa, in 2004. The group is a big one, comprised of over a dozen musicians, each of whom either sings or plays a brass, woodwind or percussion instrument. Banda MS' most well-known members are singers Oswaldo Silvas and Alan Ramirez and tuba player Sergio Lizarraga. Though founded in 2004, Banda MS didn’t come out with their first full-length album – No Podras – until 2005. Their most successful album to date is En Preparacion, the group's fifth full-length record, which was released in 2009. En Preparacion includes the band’s biggest hit, “Sin Evidencias,” which peaked at No. 5 on the U.S. Hot Latin Songs chart and No. 5 on the Regional Mexican Songs chart, and also brought acclaim to the group and Banda internationally. Banda MS’ worldwide popularity is due to the musical talent of its members and the band's ability to contemporize traditional Mexican music.
