    The Orchestera sounded amazing.

by Jewels on 9/17/23Merriweather Post Pavilion - Columbia

Great movie, please think about doing the Rocky 4 with the Russian Ivan. That would be a great one. Maybe next time have the orchestra play a little something just before the movie starts so we can see the performers. All in all a great relaxing time.

    Great evening

by Latosha on 9/16/23Merriweather Post Pavilion - Columbia

Great time! The symphony was so seamless that you didn't even realize it wasn't coming from the movie. The venue was nice.

    Not enough Harry Potter

by nepmd on 6/2/15Meyerhoff Symphony Hall - Baltimore

Considering that Harry Potter was used in the title, I think they short changed it. They played Hedwig's Theme but it was an abbreviated version. On many of the other pieces they played the full version. We were especially looking forward to Hedwig's Theme and were, therefore, disappointed. The music was fabulous, though, and we enjoyed the concert immensely (except for the abbreviated Hedwig's Theme, of course).

    A fantastic evening of Hairspray!

by Telecomgoddess on 1/31/13Meyerhoff Symphony Hall - Baltimore

I thoroughly enjoyed this event - having the depth of a symphony backing up the cast was an entertaining spin on this musical, and I was happy they kept with the original score, and the not the version based on the movie that I saw in the theater last time. Paul Vogt is hands down the best Edna I've seen in the musical - stage or screen - and brings the most 'Divine' into the role. My only complaint is with Micky Dolenz (whom I love as a Monkee!). He played Wilbur with a stupid look on his face, not befitting the character at all! Wilbur is not an idiot because he owns a joke shop. He is a loving man that looks beyond size and color, and who wants everyone to enjoy a good laugh. Micky made the role a joke, and that upset me. I think Marissa and Nick did a fantastic job as Tracy and Link, and I loved the inclusion of local talent for the chorus. Last, but certainly not least, I ADORED John Waters and his narration! I would have stayed another hour just to hear more stories from him on the inspirations behind this musical!

Hairspray Symphony - Great Take on a Great Musical

by Telecomgoddess on 1/28/13Meyerhoff Symphony Hall - Baltimore

I loved the format of hearing all the songs from Hairspray with the musical depth of a symphony. I appreciated using local kids for the chorus. I ADORED having John Waters as the narrator, and enjoyed the stories behind the story, and would have loved to hear more! Paul Vogt was the BEST Edna I've seen since Divine created the role. He should have been cast in the movie, in my opinion. My only 'complaint' is that Micky Dolenz played Wilbur as a dunce, with a stupid look on his face throughout the performance. That was not necessary, and if someone had never seen the original movie or movie musical, they would assume from this performance that Wilbur is a dolt, which is why he owns a joke shop and loves such a large woman!! NOT TRUE!! Please tell Mr. Dolenz to play the role as intended - a loving husband and father who enjoys life and doesn't judge people by weight or skin color!!
