About

Mirror, mirror on the wall, who in this land is the fairest of all?

Hailed by audiences and critics worldwide for its entrancing choreography and stunning beauty, France’s Ballet Preljocaj’s contemporary retelling of Snow White makes its Melbourne debut this winter.

This lush, full-length story ballet by French choreographer Angelin Preljocaj features massive sets, the magnificent excess of Gustav Mahler's symphonies performed by Orchestra Victoria under the baton of Johannes Fritszch, and an all-star roster of French artists including set design by Thierry Leproust, and costumes by legendary Haute Couture designer Jean Paul Gaultier.

“Dark, modern and gripping… a must-see production” – Limelight ★★★★½

    We loved it!

Recommended by our choreographer son as “inventive”, my husband and I very much enjoyed the performance. I smiled through most of it. Surprise after surprise. I can’t fault anything. Beautifully conceived, danced, set designed, lit, costumed, and scored.

    My first live ballet event

by CLRND on 4/26/12Orpheum Theatre - Minneapolis

It was amazing! The story was conveyed perfectly knowing the fairy tale helped understand the plot - the interpretation of all the songs was incredible.

    Worth It, but...

by Watashi on 4/15/12Orpheum Theatre - Minneapolis

Great set. Great costumes. Mahler. The choreography ranges between great and mediocre. Interpretation was fresh and interesting. Certain scenes like forcing the apple down into the Princess were superb and filled with raw emotion. Other portions seemed too long and tedious. Too often dance movements were just movements that had little to do with the story or any kind of emotion. The dancers themselves were nothing special -- this isn't Bolshoi, and if one is looking for technique or amazing things or dancing artistry, then one will be disappointed.
