BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Bahamas is the solo project of Toronto-based singer-songwriter Afir Jurvanen. He recorded and produced his 2009 debut Pink Strat in an isolated cabin in Ontario's countryside, the perfect setting for his reflective tunes. The album earned him a Juno Award nod the following year for Solo Roots & Traditional Album of the Year, establishing him as a hot new act on Canada's music radar. His warm, harmony-laden music shined on his 2012 follow-up Barchords, which featured the lush fan favorite "Lost In The Light". Touring alongside City and Colour, Wilco, and Elvis Costello, Bahamas earned legions of new fans and received praise for his mesmerizing live performances. With his calm, low-key tunes and carefree stage presence, it's no wonder he shares his name with a relaxing island paradise and leaves ticket buyers feeling at peace on his tours.
Bahamas is a fantastic musical treat. The music is unique, varied and beautifully executed. The music pulls you in as you wonder what could be next. It’s never repetitive, it’s never expected a bit surprising. Fantastic guitar playing, beautiful vocals and an all around great experience.
The entire show was absolutely amazing from beginning to end. I'm so glad I got to discover during the pre-show Fortunate Ones, they were so great! And Bahamas was awesome!
I took my four year old daughter to this concert. The quality of music was what I expected - superb. But, it was beyond enjoyable because my daughter had a wonderful time. She was able to dance in the aisles and hang on the stage. It was such a memorable experience and for that I’m grateful!
What a venue, what a band, what a hunk of man... Flew all the way from Edmonton to see Afie and the crew - would do it again in a heartbeat!
I didn’t realize it was a ‘children’s’ concert. Bunch of noisy kids who weren’t interested in the show. The volume was way too low. No one was dancing or clapping or anything. Lame.
Bahamas provides an incredible concert, and Massey Hall has some of the best musical acoustics you can experience. The only thing holding this back from a 5 star night was that our view was obstructed by a wood support beam. Ticketmaster did not list this visual obstruction on the tickets when I purchased them. We still had a great time, but knowing this in advance would have been ideal … this is of course a Ticketmaster problem and nothing to do with Bahamas. Thanks for the great music!
I should have paid more attention to the “Family Affair” nod on the ticket, not realizing that kids 12 and under got free entry - I was more than a bit surprised when 90% of the crowd was families, even some with babies in hearing protection! Afie and band put on a great show, and his banter with the crowd was really top notch. This is my second time seeing him live at the Paradise and it’s such a great venue for his sound.

Bahamas, whether in a kid-friendly matinee setting, or a full blown full volume club show, never disappoints. The band is tight, the songs are exceptional and the atmosphere that is created is an authentic celebration of music and comradery. Worth catching any time you are able.
