    It was unique

by stopdrop on 4/20/15Apollo Theater - Chicago

The whole musical is completely improvised. So at times it was not very funny and not very musical. But it was usually pretty good. It's a short show, maybe 90 minutes total. There were definitely some funny bits, but I would have rather saved my money and gone to see a rehearsed musical.

    Baby Wants More

    by Elijah14 on 4/6/15Apollo Theater - Chicago

This past weekend was my first trip to see Baby Wants Candy and I was simply blown away with laughter. For anyone who does not know what this show is, it is rather simple (for the audience). The cast comes out and asks for a nonexistent title of a musical. After accepting a suggestion from the audience they begin improving the musical without any planning. So do not go into this thinking they have to be the best singers in the world or that it will have broadway type quality. The "amateur-ness" of the show is half the fun. The show I saw was titled The Tampon King, so just imagine the possibilities of hilarity. All of the cast members are hilarious and quick witted, so go see a show, you won't regret it.

    BWC was a pleasant surprise

by tdbowler on 3/25/12Apollo Theater - Chicago

Very funny and witty! The performers were extremely quick witted and very in tune with the audience. I would definitely go again and encourage others to go. The cozy theater made the show more personable.

    Was impressed!

    by lillian15 on 1/17/12Apollo Theater - Chicago

I thought this was a really funny show and would definitely go back. If I lived in the area I could see how this would become a regular Friday night event since it's a different musical every week. I've been to a good amount of improv theater and thought this was very well done. There was obvious chemistry between all the actors and everyone brought something good to the table. The musical that they did was called "Showdown at the Golden Corral." I plan to go back.

tears running down my face this was so funny

by AshevilleVisitor on 11/20/11Apollo Theater - Chicago

The players are lightning-fast, brilliant people. Really astoundingly creative. There were clearly repeat audience members and I can see why. If I lived in Chicago, I'd make this a regular Friday night thing.

    Loved it

    by Yayyyyyy3 on 8/1/11Apollo Theater - Chicago

So funny. we saw the musical "Just the Tip" it was hysterical. Almost can't believe it's improv. Only complaint: It was not long enough just about an hour I think for the price it should be at least an hour and a half or hour and twenty/

    All but one

by Herpaderp on 7/4/11Apollo Theater - Chicago

The show I saw was titled super hero hospital. There is no doubt about the individual talent in most of this group. Trained improvisers, great voices, beautiful miming, fun characters, commitment to the long form. However there was one girl in this group who straight up continuously shifted focus from the story, to herself, put her partners down by cutting off their action in the scene, i.e. stopping the development of the love story between organ boy and female cyclop in her office so she could give some front and center soliloquy about herself even though what was happening in the love scene was far better and more interesting, which is probably why Captain Ozone took it upon himself to reinsert the romantic interest element. then she immediately, 7-10 minute in, put a big climatic problem of putting a massive hole in the ozone, forcibly, then became the ozone as background, then heightened the ozone from background, to a live antagonist, which might be fine to have an actual responsive character for the improviser to play off of, and the audience to have a visual "bad guy" but then heightened it passed its necessary status and wouldn't let captain ozone, the good guy, win, which is what the audience wants to see, by continuously challenging him in the rap battle. Once is fine, twice is pushing, three the jokes over, four please stop. Instead of taking the lower status and backin off, she had to challenge and heighten until she was the victor. Also that scene in the cafeteria was saved by ozone being hysterical because once again this girl shifted the conversation and the focus to herself wih nothing to contribute, forcing the audience to sit through an awkward, dying scene. She also had a physical, very minuscule (to someone in tune with the improvisers in the scene can see there was an actual conflict between her and ozone. Long story short, the great long form the group was fighting to put and keep together was stunted and interrupted by this selfish improviser who ruined the show for me and her teammates. Everyone else in the was fantastic. Really smart improviser, good give and take, really good support system.
