About

Alex More has a story to tell. A struggling actor in L.A., Alex takes a job working in the mall in Barbra Streisand's Malibu basement. One day, the Lady Herself comes downstairs to play. It feels like real bonding in the basement, but will their relationship ever make it upstairs? BUYER & CELLAR is an outrageous comedy about the price of fame, the cost of things, and the oddest of odd jobs.
The New York Times critics Ben Brantley and Charles Isherwood recently raved about the play. Brantley wrote that Buyer & Cellar is "the most talked about new comedy of the season." WQXR Radio's Isherwood called the hit comedy "very funny" and "a tour-de-force performance."

    Good not great

Loved the theatre; wish the bartender was more pleasant. Applaud the talent of the actor in the one man show. The set was barren and not engaging.

Liked the show..but didn't get all the references. Michael Urie was good and was nice to see him live.

    This play is fabulous!

by OWWOD on 6/18/14Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago

Saw this play last Christmas in New York. Same actor. Loved it so much and wanted my youngest daughter to see it with me. We howled with laughter. The writing is so wonderful--hilarious with moments of seriousness and a little sadness. The actor is adorable and so talented that you forget you are watching a play and think your best friend just came over to tell you about his weird job. I can't think of anyone who wouldn't enjoy this play and, if there is someone, I don't want to meet them.

Insightful look at working for and relating with celebrities or the extremely privileged.

    Buyer and Cellar Rocks

by Babslover on 6/18/14Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago

This play was an absolute gem. The "story" of course was hilarious to anyone who loves Barbra. Even if you didn't love Barbra, the numerous pop culture references were enough to keep you wildly entertained. Michael Urie was absolute genius. Watching him perform his various characters was mesmerizing. I have always thought he was very talented, but this performance blew me away. One-person shows can sometimes become a bit much, but no problem here. Urie's ability to slip in and out of his various personas was incredible. I am so glad I saw this show. It even had a wonderful shout-out to Northwestern! A great afternoon of theatre.

This was a quality performance! Michael Urie was amazing and he is truly a phenomenal actor! On another note, if you love Barbara Striesand and you understand references towards her life then you will even enjoy this show more.

    So so

by Buddy80 on 6/17/14Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago

Actor did great for a one man show. But overall it wasn't entertaining for the entire show. Could be shortened by 30 mins or so.

A few bright and funny lines, but an otherwise tedious evening at the theatre. Kept asking myself... "Who cares, and why are people laughing at this repetitive stuff?"

    One Man Show

by Abogada on 6/15/14Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago

This really should be called Urie's one man tour de force! He hit all these emotions masterfully and then made us laugh uncontrollably to top it off!

    Michael was spot on

by phillip301s on 6/15/14Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago

Michael was great as his different characters. His voice and body movements, especially Streisand were very good. A lot of dialogue to deliver and I didn't see him miss a beat. Very entertaining.
