About

Acclaimed hip hop artist Azealia Banks’ prodigious skills belie her age. Born in 1991 and raised by her mother in Harlem, she discovered her yearning for the limelight at an early age and enrolled in the La Guardia High School of Performing Arts. A blossoming acting career beckoned, but it was music, in particular rap music, which helped Azealia discover her identity. When she was only 17, and under the pseudonym Miss Bank$, she released her first track “17†on MySpace. It went viral and brought her to the attention of XL Records.

Artistic differences between Azealia and the record label soon led to her departure and relocation to Montreal, Canada. There, reverting to her real name, she recorded two tracks, L8R, and a cover of the Interpol hit “Slow Hands,†which she put out on YouTube. However, it was her next, originally penned track “212,†which featured Lazy Jay, released as a free download in September 2011, which brought critical acclaim and launched her career as a recording artist in earnest. The BBC, Pitchfork and NME, among others, hailed her innovative use of lyrics backed by bass-heavy rapping and vocal skills, and it became a hit in Europe, the UK and Ireland. The album resulted in Azealia being nominated for a Sound of 2012 award, and in the same year she was ranked first place in NME's Cool List.

Moving to London in 2012, Azealia started work on her first full-length album with Florence + The Machine and Adele's producer, Paul Epworth. Her mixtape, Fantasea, was released in July 2012 and features the hits Yung Rapunzel and ATM Jam, and she has also been in the studio working on her debut album, Broke With Expensive Taste, under the auspices of Universal, with whom she has a record deal.

A measure of Azealia's prodigious talent and recognition of her expected future success is that major music and video production stars from around the world are queuing up to work with her. Collaborations have included names such as Aaliyah, video producer Nicola Formichetti, most notable for her work with Lady Gaga, Two Door Cinema Club, with whom she toured in 2012, and Kayne West.

    A. Banks was great

by LeChadd on 10/23/18Howard Theatre - Washington

She gave a hell of a performance and her vocals were on point. She gave us high energy wish she danced and worked the stage a bit more, but none the less she showed up and showed out. Even playing some of her earlier hits that we all love.

by Aquaflux on 6/26/18Sony Hall - New York

The energy was incredible she even pushed through a hair malfunction and kept the show going, a true icon! Also her opening acts Sateen & DonMonique slayed the stage too. Great vibes all around

    Banks no show at 2am

by Anonymous on 6/25/18Sony Hall - New York

After spending $30 in ticket fees going through Ticketmaster I’m going to a show at 11 PM with no listed openers, and the star had not arrived by 2 AM. The DJs were terrible, people are LITERALLY falling asleep on the dance floor, at 2am we left. Upset about a Wasted $100, many people were outside the venue and in the subway complaining about having to leave the show disappointed as well. I’ve never been so disappointed at a show or at a venue. Was a terrible way to Celebrate pride in nyc.

    No respect for time

by doublea19 on 6/25/18Sony Hall - New York

She was 2 hours late to the show just to perform for about 40 mins. Then she kept having wig problems and went back stage to “fix” it, but she just put a headband on. I was not a happy camper. The fact that she didn’t apologize for her tardiness made me lose all respect.

by MarkkP on 10/18/17The Masquerade - Atlanta

She was amazing all and all!! I loved her performance, that venue should of had more chairs and it should have started sooner than it did, other than that I had a blast! Well worth it

    The answer is yes.

by sxncere on 10/17/17The Masquerade - Atlanta

We were all getting restless waiting on Azealia to perform, and we had to wait a while for her opening act to start as well, but I was in the early crowd and was in the front of the venue. Regardless, you will yell a lot, jump up and down, and lose your voice for a few days. Azealia picked the best songs she had that would be guaranteed to move the crowd, you will not be disappointed.
