About

ATLAS SOUND IN CONCERT:

Atlas Sound is the solo project of Deerhunter frontman Bradford Cox, whose impressive songwriting chops and experimental nature have long made him an indie darling. His solo work explores a softer side of his idiosyncratic talents, which plays wonderfully in intimate concert settings. Plugging an acoustic guitar into an arsenal of tone-manipulating devices, he conjures stunning swathes of sound by layering rhythmic, melodic passages on top of each other. The awe-inspiring results, coupled with lyrics that discover beauty in the rubble of Cox’s own insecurities, offer an exhilarating glimpse into the mind of this art rock auteur. Ticket buyers will be delighted by the slowly building and heart-breaking majesty of songs like “Te Amo”, “Mona Lisa”, and “Walkabout”, and any fan of genre-defying yet deeply affecting music would be wise to seek out Atlas Sound wherever he plays on tour.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

After he began to exhibit symptoms of Marfan Syndrome at the age of 10, Bradford Cox became shy and isolated. When he learned that he could form a primitive multitrack recorder using his Atlas Sound karaoke machine, he discovered both a creative outlet and an early name for his experimental recordings. His began performing his music when he founded Deerhunter in 2001 with a few other Marietta, GA locals. The group eventually incorporated garage rock, pop, and psychedelic influences on critically adored albums like Microcastle (2008), Halcyon Digest (2010), and Fading Frontier (2015). Amid the success of Deerhunter, Cox stumbled across 500 tapes of stream-of-consciousness recordings he made as a child, inspiring him to revive Atlas Sound. He made his recorded debut under the solo moniker in 2008 with Let the Blind Lead Those Who Can See But Cannot Feel. Cox continues to stun audiences in both Deerhunter and Atlas Sound with his beautiful voice and singular ability to leverage sound manipulation to his advantage.
