    Asylum Street Spankers

by piscesdeb on 2/28/11The Ark - Ann Arbor

I have not been to a concert in ages. I think I pick a good band to see. Asylum Street Spankers were the best. I had more fun that night then I have had in a very long time. My husband and I had front row seats. The best seats in the house. They were all so funny and performed better than my expectations. I had a wonderful time and wish that I had known about this band before their farewell tour. I would buy tickets to see this band again if given the chance.

    Spankers blew us away!!!

by OscarOtter on 2/26/11The Ark - Ann Arbor

I was a little nervous as Wammo, who was a huge presence in the band, is no longer there, but I should have realized that with consummate professionals like Christina, Nevada Barr, and Charlie King the energy would still be there. From Wake and Bake to the infamous Scrotum song, the energy was there all night. If you get a chance to see the Asylum Street Spankers before the end of their farewell tour, you should definitely take it. Unless of course anatomical and sexual humor offends you.

    great fun!

by bruntbonzai on 3/1/10Aladdin Theater - Portland

The Aladdin is a great place for a concert. Asylum Street Spankers are unique, silly and very, very talented. They look like they are having fun up there which adds to the audience's enjoyment. I hope they come back soon! I only wish they had played a little longer.

Fabulous musicians and entertainers. Had heard a couple of Asylum Street Spankers CDs via my daughter's boyfriend, but really didn't appreciate the range of their talents. Thoroughly enjoyed the performance and will recommend them to others.

    Texas comes to Michigan

by jamandbs on 11/20/09The Ark - Ann Arbor

This was a strange show. The musicians were really talented, and obviously interesting, smart, funny people. This particular tour was both more tame and more raunchy than my limited exposure to their music had led me to expect -- less satire, more their interpretation of existing music, and topped off by really bawdy tunes. The Ark is a strange place to see music -- not set up very well (a good half of the seating is on the sides of the stage), bizarre rules about what seating is reserved, etc., and a sound-staff that was apparently unfamiliar with the music and didn't know how to mix it. The mid-week midwestern crowd was sparse and dead. The band seemed really bored. Altogether, a novel but tepid affair.
