About

Grammy-nominated Metalcore standouts As I Lay Dying have been a defining act of the 21st Century with their inspired combination of grindcore, thrash and death metal, all of which are tied together by Christian themes and catchy hooks. Inspired by classic metal acts like Megadeth, Cannibal Corpse, Iron Maiden, and Metallica, the San Diego quartet have not been free of controversy -- in 2014, the band split up when lead singer Tim Lambesis was sentenced to prison -- but they have since reunited and continue to release albums and tour throughout North America and Europe.

Formed as a trio in 2001, the initial As I Lay Dying lineup consisted of Lambesis, drummer Jordan Mancino and guitarist Evan White. Their debut LP was Beneath the Encasing of Ashes followed by a split CD with fellow metalcore band, the American Tragedy, in 2002. In 2003, As I Lay Dying signed with Metal Blade and released that year's sophomore album, Frail Words Collapse.

After the release of Frail Words Collapse, White left the lineup and was replaced by two guitarists: Phil Sgrosso and Nick Hipa. Bassist Clint Norris also joined the band at that time. Together, the band recorded their third album, 2005's Shadows Are Security. In 2006, As I Lay Dying released their first compilation album, A Long March: The First Recordings. That summer, they toured with metalcore peers GWAR, In Flames, Trivium, and Cannibal Corpse.

Bassist Clint Norris soon left the lineup and was replaced by Josh Gilbert, and in 2007 the band released their fourth studio album: This Is Who We Are. Three years later, they followed it up with 2010's The Powerless Rise. In 2011, to commemorate their 10th anniversary as a band, As I Lay Dying released their second compilation album, Decas, which featured covers of Slayer and Judas Priest.

In 2013, the band shared their sixth studio album, Awakened, which was produced by Bill Stevenson. That same year, Lambesis was arrested and while awaiting trial released the album Triple Brutal under his side project Austrian Death Machine. After Lambesis was sentenced to six years in prison in 2014, the remaining band members -- Mancino, Sgrosso, Hipa, Gilbert, and vocalist Shane Blay -- formed a different project under the name Wovenwar.

In June 2018, As I Lay Dying reunited and performed their first show in five years at the SOMA Sidestage in their hometown of San Diego.

Since then, As I Lay Dying has signed with Nuclear Blast, toured, and released an album, 2019's Shaped By Fire. Catch As I Lay Dying when they come to a city near you.

Not sure there is really much else to say. Been my favorite band for well over a decade and a half and they never disappoint. Do yourself a favor; go to an As I Lay Dying concert.

Show was awesome, great to get some metal in again!

by Don on 7/4/22Roxian Theatre - Pittsburgh

All the bands were great. I wish they would pay alittle more attention to the sound mixing though. It was good after the first band but wish they did it at the beginning...

    Best concert in many years!

by Lone wolf on 7/3/22Mercury Ballroom - Louisville

I normally don't leave reviews on much of anything but this experience warrants giving props. The Mercury ballroom in Louisville is a great venue for a metal show; the staff are all cool...it is an exceptionally well run place. I went to this show specifically to see As I Lay Dying but was also super impressed with the opening acts. I know a lot of AILD fans out there may be bagging on the band because of the departure of some of the original members but I can personally attest that they have not lost a step. They sounded amazing!!! The set list is perfect, the musicianship is top notch, and Tim L. was great with the vocals (still killing after two decades). Do yourself a favor and catch this show if you can. They were just awesome!!

    Awesome!

by Tyler T on 7/2/22Mercury Ballroom - Louisville

The show was awesome! I had never seen As I Lay Dying before and they blew the doors off the place. The crowd was great, Mercury Ballroom was awesome as always, drinks were great, show was awesome. Whitechapel was just as good as the last time I saw them. The other two bands were great too! Awesome show. Worth double the ticket price in my opinion.

    Fantastic show

by Metal man on 7/2/22Mercury Ballroom - Louisville

I think the change in venue helped make this show fantastic. The smaller venue worked out great. AILD lineup change was noticeable but they really made up for it. Crowd was awesome and having a blast. First time at Mercury found it to be a great venue.

Best shows I’ve seen in a long time

by Ainscough on 7/2/22Mercury Ballroom - Louisville

Great lineup for one! Sound was fantastic and the musicians were on point! As I lay dying killed it! First time I’ve ever seen them live and they had the audience in awe with there play list and the way there amps and drums sounded! Whitechapel was wonderful and dominated as well. Shadow of intent surprised me because I wasn’t expecting much out of them but they were brutally awesome! Brand of sacrifice played a hell of a show and great stage presents!
