About
ARI HEST IN CONCERT:
New York-based Singer-songwriter Ari Hest has been telling stories with his trusty acoustic guitar and world-wise voice since 1999. Over the course of more than a dozen albums and EPs -- many of them released independently -- Hest has proven himself an authentic and entertaining live act with a humble stage presence and knack for catchy melodies. Whether he's crooning on originals like "Cranberry Lake" or serving up covers of luminaries like Fleetwood Mac and the Beatles, Hest is a world-class songsmith who never fails to move and inspire with his intimate, poignant performances on tour.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Ari Hest was born in the Bronx to a musical family -- his father is a college music professor and his mother a cantor. Hest took piano lessons and taught himself guitar during his childhood, and by college he was writing and recording his own material. Beginning with 1999's Incomplete EP, Hest independently released three impressive collections of songs before Columbia Records signed him to their roster. He made his debut on the label in 2004 with the album Someone to Tell, an impressive effort that he followed up with several EPs and another album on the label. He continued to release material on his own label Project 4 for the remainder of the decade, and in 2011 he made his debut on Downtown Records with the album Sunset Over Hope Street. A warm and genuine performer known for his no-frills live shows, Hest continues to impress on tour both as a headliner and as a supporting act for big names like Judy Collins.

by 3Kat on 3/6/11The Ark - Ann ArborAri Hest is an incredible songwriter, musician, and singer. He plays with soul and plenty of humor. Doug Yowell who is accompanying Ari on tour is equally entertaining, playing more instruments then I thought was humanly possible. I highly recommend this show and if he is not playing in your area it is worth a road trip.
Rating: 5 out of 5 Ari was amazing...again!
by ktops on 7/16/09RED ROOM AT CAFÉ 939 - BostonI thought Bryan Greenberg, who was one of the opening acts, took up too much time and Ari came on much later than anticipated. However, when Ari took the stage it was pure magic. He is completely amazing and very real. I loved that he had Amy Kuney there to sing "Cranberyy Lake" and "Ride the Brake" with him. This is the second time I have seen Ari perform live and every time he is breathtaking! His music has so much feeling and he delivers it in a beautiful way.
