About

For 30 years Anthrax has been bringing the noise and treating ticket buyers to aggressive, fist-pumping music. Blistering guitars and double-pedal drums are only the beginning. Anthrax combines elements of punk, funk, hardcore and rap into their sound, and its stage presence on tour is more frat party run amuck and less fire and brimstone metal. The band’s use of humor sets them apart from their contemporaries as Scott Ian, typically dressed for an Anthrax concert in shorts and t-shirt, looks like he should be on a surfboard or at the skate park. Their newest LP Worship Music was released in 2011 debuted at No. 12 on the Billboard 200.

Anthrax’s story began in 1981, when the guitarist Scott Ian and then bassist Danny Lilker looked through a biology textbook in search of a moniker for their New York City thrash-metal band. Classic 1980s albums Fistful of Metal and Spreading the Disease cemented Anthrax’s signature stomp and crush sound, churning up mosh pits and sending waves of concert goers into a head-banging frenzy. Anthrax’s biggest crossover hit is “Bring the Noise,” a 1991 collaboration with Pubic Enemy. Not only did this metal/rap hybrid get serious airtime on MTV, but it is also credited for being a genre-defining moment in music and setting the groundwork for a genre known as “nu metal.” Artists are still giving a shout out to the seminal song; this is best illustrated in M.I.A.’s new album “Matangi,” which has a song tilted “Bring the Noize.” The crossover hit from the 1990s is still crossing over today — and the band is still as great as they've ever been.

    Best of the "Big 4"

by GlenW on 6/2/23The Fillmore Silver Spring - Silver Spring

Been a fan since first hearing Anthrax in 1987. Seen them several times over the years. Always a good show, and good crowd. Looking forward to a new album (long overdue) and tour.

Awesome show at an excellent venue

by DifrntDrmr on 2/24/23City National Grove of Anaheim - Anaheim

The band is at the top of its game! The only thing better would have been to have two sets with John Bush doing his thing and then having Joe perform the classic songs. The Grove is a great place to see a band like this. The tiered system prevents a crush of the crowd. Be forewarned though, I wish that I had brought earplugs. I have gone to a lot of shows in my lifetime and I don't think my ears have ever been effected the way they were for this show.

Anthrax @ The Grove of Anaheim

by Smitty on 2/24/23City National Grove of Anaheim - Anaheim

Great show but the stage isn't high enough it was hard to see. Not to mention everyone recording the show. I can't stand that. Also security didn't even check me and my brother we were waved on through and a bit rude by the Security Guard who wasn't guarding anything. Anthrax is a killer band they sounded awesome. My one maybe 3 complaints is they do A song from the bush era of Anthrax I could do with out that. They could of done a song from worship music "the devil you know. Cut out got the Time and do Medusa or AIR but Joey was killer the band sounds amazing just work on the set list. No

    Anthrax/Black Label Society/Exodus

by Bill on 2/22/23City National Grove of Anaheim - Anaheim

It was definitely a great show. This was the first time I had seen both Exodus and Black Label Society. I really enjoyed Zakk Wylde’s guitar work in Black Label Society. I really loved the tribute song for Dimebag Darrell and his brother Vinnie Paul. The last time I had seen him play live is when he was still in Ozzy Osbourne’s band. Exodus had a short set but still killed it. Anthrax played all of their familiar songs. I had seen them before, but it was so long ago. I’m so glad that I had attended this show. I would see any of these bands again.

Separation of GA/Seated areas a disaster

by HB on 2/22/23Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

Typically at the Fox theater, you buy a seat, for a higher price, and you have option to go down to GA area. Theyve changed this and amenities are now limited and cut off. Dont see a show here

47 year old caught in a mosh

by Anthrax Aaron on 2/22/23City National Grove of Anaheim - Anaheim

I'm not a huge Exodus fan, but Gary Holt always shreds. BLS continued with Zakk Wylde and company kicking ass like only they can do. Anthrax introduction film was awesome, but was second to their performance. Hard to believe this was their 40th anniversary! Hell, I even managed to get a Scotty Ian guitar pick!!!
