Very nice performance by this talented pianist. Progam was mostly classics, but also included a premier of a new composition (didn't care much for it), and a Gershwin number (wish she would have done more). The piano they provided for her use was a bit lackluster, but all in all, we enjoyed the concert.
I hope Ang Li will come back to perform in Arizona!
I disagree with the other reviewer and have to speak up. Ang Li's history with her instrument and her lifetime of honing her craft are so evident in her performances. She is a young pro in her 20s and clearly shows her life's commitment to explore, improve and deepen her technique. I went to both of her Scottsdale performances with students of mine (I teach piano performance at the university level) and found that she was an inspiring modern talent to college pianists dreaming of solo careers. She is living proof that it can be done! We need more young, energetic blood in the classical music scene, and pianists that aren't afraid to experiment with contemporary pieces and extended technique (messin' with the inside of the piano) in their programs. I applaud Ang Li and recommend that any piano lover, performer, fan or music aficionado with adventurous taste attend one of her shows.
Was thoroughly dissapointed with her technique, definitely not "Top 30" in the world. Liked the small venue. Left at intermission.
