About

Ambrosia on Tour

Ambrosia, an American rock band formed in Los Angeles in 1970, is back in action. Their 2022 tour, ambrosialive, is bringing together a long-running and loyal audience. The band boasts five Top 40 hit singles released between the years of 1975 and 1980. The singles include "Holdin' on to Yesterday," "You're the Only Woman (You & I)," "Biggest Part of Me," and "How Much I Feel." The 2022 tour includes all members of the original band -- bassist/vocalist Joe Puerta, drummer/vocalist Burleigh Drummond and keyboardist/vocalist Christopher North -- plus guitarist/vocalist Doug Jackson (guitar and vocals), Ken Stacey (vocals) and Mary Harris (keyboards and vocals.) The band has been playing together for 25 years. Seeing Ambrosia live is a nostalgic and energizing experience. The tour will span the United States over the course of the year.

Ambrosia Live in Concert

Ambrosia was named after the band's desire to be eclectic in style, encompassing all shades, textures, colors, and styles. The band was originally formed as a quartet. Ambrosia soared to the top of the mainstream music charts despite being progressive in nature. Being from Southern California, the band was inspired by artists such as The Beach Boys and The Beatles. Ambrosia got their start in 1971 when a friend of the band who was running sound for the Hollywood Bowl invited the band to play onstage to test the sound system. Gordon Perry, the head engineer, invited them to attend performances with the Los Angeles Philharmonic. The conductor chose to feature Ambrosia as part of the "All American Dream Concert." After landing a deal with 20th Century Fox Records, the band became an American legend. Today, the band still maintains a loyal and enthusiastic following. Ambrosia live in concert in 2022 certainly stands to be a reunion and celebration of epic proportions.

    Balanced Lineup!

by zantac on 4/1/24The Showroom at the Golden Nugget - Las Vegas

When you see a group that started in 1975, you do not always get the originals. But with the complex music of Ambrosia, there are still three of the original members that tour. Joe Puerta is the bassist, who is probably the best bass player I have ever seen, Burleigh Drummond is the drummer who can lead the band through the changing pace that their music demonstrates, and Christopher North is a master of the keyboards. Unfortunately Chris North is undergoing treatments for some illness, and Shem Von Shroeck filled in for him. Now this is not a lesser quality musician. In fact Shem has played fill in for every instrument in that band. Oh, and he sings also! You would think he would want to join the Ambrosia Band and commit to them, but the word on the street is that he won't commit. They played so unreal last Friday night at Golden Nugget, and I have seen them about ten times here in Vegas, at Coach House in San Juan Capistrano, CA. and at the Liberty Bowl in Ojai, CA. They are never better than when Shem is playing with them. He is a musician's musician as could be seen by the looks from Lead guitarist Doug Jackson towards Shem. I certainly miss Chris North, and the showmanship he brings. Kip Lennon on vocals was not there that night either. But Shem adds what the band needs more than those two individuals, and the sound (props to Mary Harris on keyboards) was unbelievable. They were the best I had ever seen them, and that is a very high bar to scale!! Regardless of the lineup, go to see Ambrosia whenever possible!

    Lousy mixing for talented musicians

by Vegas Nan on 4/1/24The Showroom at the Golden Nugget - Las Vegas

They need a better mixer on their sound. For most of the concert the instruments were drowning out the singers badly and that was a real shame because everyone of the band members had great voices (IMO) and were absolutely terrific musicians.

    A Great Show

by Marge on 3/30/24Goodyear Theater - Akron

This was a great show. It started off a little rough on the first song but quickly made adjustments and everything was smooth sailing from then on. A little sad that David Pack was no longer singing with the group, but the other members made you think it was still the original cast. Loved all the songs and the enthusiasm with which they were played. Brought back a lot of great memories. Thanks for a great show!!!

Great performance in a nice theater

by Kevin on 3/27/24Goodyear Theater - Akron

Ambrosia still has it --- even though Chris North (keys) was out sick, the band, still with Joe Puerta (bass) and Burleigh Drummond (drums) was rocking and played great. Puerta was a beast on vocals and bass, and the other singers used were likewise fantastic. A mix of Ambrosia songs and covers relevant to the band - Beatles (Ambrosia played on the Sgt Pepper's movie soundtrack), Bruce Hornsby (he toured as a keyboardist for Ambrosia and Joe Puerta was a founding member of the Range) and Gary Wright (Ambrosia was his backing band on his last tour.) Add in special guest John Ford Coley and it was a night full of hits.

    Awesome Ambrosia

by StephenM on 3/26/24Goodyear Theater - Akron

Had a wonderful time seeing Ambrosia at the Goodyear Theatre in Akron. Wasn't sure how I'd feel about the vocals with original lead singer David Pack, but Rick Cowling was amazing. The band sounded fantastic, and the addition of Shem von Schroeck was also perfect. Have loved Ambrosia since the 70's and although this was my first opportunity to see them live I was definitely pleased.

by Alan on 11/6/23The Showroom at the Golden Nugget - Las Vegas

Great music and voices are still strong for a 70's band
