    Broadway Bound for sure!!!

by knotsue on 11/19/14Bank of America Theatre - Chicago

I knew this would be a fun musical to see and it would be good, but I had no idea just how good. This musical will blow your mind after just the first song...Amazing for sure! Don't go thinking it will be a factual life story of Newton. The story line takes some liberties for the sake of telling a better story and keeping it a little more simple. Just read up on his real life story before going. The entire musical is so worthy of seeing and even if you are not a fan of the bible Hymns, you will be a fan of this musical. The musical score is top notch and the costumes are beautiful. Some of the scenes will take your breath away.

Amazing Grace was amazing--in all aspects

by Joanirene on 11/11/14Bank of America Theatre - Chicago

The show was magnificent. The staging, timing, talent, music, technical aspects and costumes were all superior. The audience singing the first verse at the end of the show was a great finale .( We were not asked to do so, as I recall, but it just happened.)

I went in with high expectations for the musical. Not only were my expectations met, they were exceeded! The show was incredibly well done, a very classic style of Broadway show. The costumes, set, score, actors, everything was very impressive. I am excited to see how successful the show is on Broadway.

    SInging was excellent

by goodtimegirlie on 11/9/14Bank of America Theatre - Chicago

The singing was excellent across the board, which made it a pleasure. The songs were, for the most part, very good too. Some British accents were better than others. The story was very formulaic. If this is the true story of how events occurred, so be it, but it was all very formulaic. You couldn't sell a piece of pure fiction today that was this clichéd.

A Book, Music, Cast with Passion and Talent

by JudyMoW on 11/8/14Bank of America Theatre - Chicago

The song Amazing Grace goes beyond what you could imagine. This musical opens up your imagination and heart. You travel on a journey with John Newton from the depths of his wreckage to a graceful return. What a sensational new musical that has it all! Story, music, dancing, meaning, thought provoking, laughs, tears and so much more! The musical was memorable and powerful! By the end of the show, standing ovation with the rest of the theatre singing the song Amazing Grace, stunning… I haven’t seen anything like this in attending Broadway shows. This show was beyond this song, it spoke to me on so many levels. I sense that it is speaking to many people that saw it as the stories weave through the show with a mother’s legacy, a battle of father and son, history, the tragedy of the slave trade, a love story, conversion of heart, faith, religion, the struggle of humanity, doing the right thing and standing up against injustice despite the costs. It takes you through a storm of life that is powerful. The show had something to connect with the audiences as this musical has something for everyone no matter where you are on your walk in life’s journey. I could see the passion, wait, correction, feel the passion that everyone involved in this musical brought to the stage. What an unexpected epic journey I went on with this musical. It has it all, top talented cast, team, direction, staging, costumes, sets, choregraphy and the vision of the writer and composter that brought the story to life.

    Amazing Grace - simply amazing!!!

by JewelHaze on 11/7/14Bank of America Theatre - Chicago

Enjoyable, enlightening, heartwarming. This story retelling the life of the former slave trader who becomes an abolitionist, and writes the hymn: Amazing Grace. This production was very well-done, visual effects such as underwater saving of the drowning victim was awesome! The songs were appropriate and stirring. The story line, realities of slave-trade and risks of participating in the abolitionist movement, the realistic growth and change of heart of the main character, the strong female characters, all were done tastefully and dramatically appropriate.
