About

Provocative, irreverent, controversial and wildly creative, Amanda Palmer is a fearless singer, songwriter, playwright, blogger and an audaciously expressive pianist who simultaneously embraces – and explodes – traditional frameworks of music, theater and art.

Amanda first came to prominence as one half of the internationally acclaimed punk cabaret duo The Dresden Dolls. In 2008, she released her debut solo album, Who Killed Amanda Palmer, produced by Ben Folds and accompanied by a fine art photography book featuring text by esteemed author Neil Gaiman (who Palmer has since married). After parting ways with her record label in 2010, she self-released two EPs: Amanda Palmer Performs The Popular Hits of Radiohead On Her Magical Ukelele and Amanda Palmer Goes Down Under, along with a musical theater-esque Evelyn Evelyn album and tour with Jason Webley.

Amanda is widely known as “The Social Media Queen of Rock-N-Roll” for her constant and disarmingly intimate engagement with her fans via her blog, Tumblr, and Twitter (800,000+ followers), and has been at the vanguard of using both “direct to fan” and “pay what you want” (patronage) business models to build and run her business. In May of 2012 she made international news when she raised nearly $1.2 million pre-selling her new album, Theatre is Evil, along with related merchandise and “experiences” via Kickstarter. Theatre is Evil went on to debut in the “Billboard Top 10” when it was released on Sept. 11, 2012, and has been released in over 20 countries on her own label, 8ft records.

Amanda was invited to present a “TED Talk” at TED’s 2013 Conference. To date her Talk, “The Art of Asking”, has been viewed more than 8 million times worldwide. 2013 also saw the release of “An Evening with Neil Gaiman & Amanda Palmer”- a 3 CD collection of tracks culled from a live tour with her husband and best-selling author Neil Gaiman.

Following upon the success of her TED Talk- Amanda expanded her philosophy into a book. The Art of Asking was released worldwide in November of 2014 and became a New York Times Best Seller. In support of the book, Amanda is currently touring solo for the first time since 2011, hitting stages with a mix of rocking keyboard originals, ukulele ballads, and readings from The Art of Asking.

    Unforgettable

    by A on 5/5/23The Wilbur - Boston

The venue was gorgeous and the show was indescribable. Amanda always puts together an unforgettable and stunning performance. Poughkeepsie and Boston are for the history books. The guests performers + friends; added a whole new level of breathtaking enchantment. It was an honour to witness Svitlana Zavialova Aka WU WOMAN, infuse Amanda’s lyrics with something so primal and sacred.

    Great music, obnoxious fans

by KD on 5/2/23The Wilbur - Boston

I get it, AFP has a vocal and energetic fan group. But honestly - yelling to interrupt the performance, singing along, side talking through the whole show …. It’s an expensive ticket to have to listen to audience members over the performer. Good performance but perhaps … one show should be held as a sing along / yell-along, and one for audiences to you know - listen to the performer?

Great evening with amazing Amanda Palmer

by Bob on 5/2/23Bardavon 1869 Opera House - Poughkeepsie

Fun story telling, very talented guests on stage I'd like to see more of. She played the uke and a full size grand piano very strongly was the icing on the cake.

    A charming evening

by Clo on 5/2/23The Wilbur - Boston

Amanda is so mulitalented, she delivers such a variety of music in different styles. Her voice range and and piano skills are next level. Best part of all is her relatable sense of humor. Highly recommend.

Various Concerts all over the South

    by N. H. on 12/13/20

I have never had a less than stellar experience with Amanda Palmer OR the Dresden Dolls, and I have seen both several times. The shows are always amazing and full of energy, and her music is the kind of music that just sounds great live. No complaints whatsoever.

    Hands down AMAZING!

by ERTHREE on 6/18/19Paramount Theatre - Seattle

Her voice, her lyrics, the piano! Everything was perfect. I couldn't dream of a better show! Bringing the real world problems in to her music and sharing her own personal abortion story was so powerful! She is truly a one of a kind remarkable person!

    Everything I’d hoped for

by Noel F on 6/16/19Paramount Theatre - Seattle

Amanda is an amazing performer and storyteller. There was probably more talking than playing tonight, but it was hard to be bothered by that: the brutal, human honesty she brings is so refreshing, she probably didn’t need the piano. But as a fan, of course I’m glad she had it. Can’t wait for your next visit to Seattle, Amanda!
