About

Born to Panamanian parents in Los Angeles in 1979, E. Nathaniel Dawkins (aka Aloe Blacc) first began playing trumpet in elementary school, an instrument he continued throughout high school. There he also independently released Imaginary Friends, produced by DJ Exile, with whom he would go on to form the hip-hop group Emanon. While at college at USC, though his artistic endeavors were placed behind his scholastic goals, Aloe still managed to learn how to play the guitar and the piano, and after graduating and spending some time in the corporate world, he decided to return to his first love, music. In 2005 Emanon's full-length debut, The Waiting Room, came out on Shaman Works, and the next year his first solo album, Shine Through, a combination of neo-soul and Latin music, was released on Stones Throw. ~ Marisa Brown, Rovi

    Phenomenal Talent

by KDW on 2/17/24New Jersey Performing Arts Center - Newark

I bought these tickets for my mom, a life-long Sinatra fan, since the event was billed as an homage to Sinatra and Peggy Lee. I really did not know what to expect. I was blown away. Bandleader Christian Mc Bride was the perfect MC for this concert, and his band was FIRE. Every few songs he brought another vocalist (Aloe Blacc among them), each one as gifted as the last. Thanks to NJPAC for another great event.

    High caliber talent

by Lenny on 2/12/24New Jersey Performing Arts Center - Newark

This show was a pleasant surprise. I expected "NJ quality"entertainment. These performers belonged on Broadway. The show surpassed my expectations. I am a 75-year-old Sinatra fan and was totally disappointed in the Sinatra 100th birthday celebration show pre-COVID personnel by Michael Feinstein. He destroyed the celebratory show but I chalked it up to "NJ Quality"and was disappointed but I had been prepared for the letdown. This show was excellent from the orchestra to EVERY singer. Thanks NJPAC !!!!!

    Allen Stone 1

by KAI on 9/4/23The Venue at Thunder Valley Casino Resort - Lincoln

Allen Stone should be the headliner. Talented, energetic and great songs. Aloe needs to sing more of his own songs and talk less

    It was great!!

by Victoria on 9/4/23The Venue at Thunder Valley Casino Resort - Lincoln

The venue is really nice. The concert I went to was so much fun. Great music/entertainment!! Will definitely be going to more concerts. The only thing I think needs improvement is their concession stand. There needs to be more options on food, not just hot dogs or chips and drinks as well. All in all it was a fun evening.

Too much talking. Too many covers. Not enough Allen Stone.

by SpecialKay on 9/4/23The Venue at Thunder Valley Casino Resort - Lincoln

The venue is fantastic. Not a bad seat in the house. Can’t say much about Eric Bellinger because he came and went so quickly that it left no impression on me. Allen Stone was the real headliner. With a fast paced set that hit on his best known songs and an easy, relaxed and witty rapport with the audience, most of whom were there for him. Aloe Blacc has such a great voice. He is a wonderful singer. There was waaaaaay too much taking in between songs. It killed the momentum every time. And why are you singing old songs that aren’t yours? I don’t think a headliner should be doing too many covers, especially with the catalogue this guy has.
