The play was less than skillfully written and the actors were adequate for their roles.

Rating: 3 out of 5by Anonymous on 8/20/12Apollo Theater - Chicago Rating: 3 out of 5 Almost Maine - almost very good
by Rvoni on 2/27/12Burnsville Performing Arts Center - BurnsvilleLet me start by stating that I *am* from the same home town as the writer, John Cariani - that being Presque Isle, Maine. So, I have a bit of insight into the subject matter, and that also gives me the reason to be a bit disappointed. The plots were only a little familiar to this place. I've been to Echo Lake and the snowmobile club, but the other details were quite foreign. Perhaps the writer (7 years younger than me) purposely maintained some distance to his hometown? I did particularly enjoy the heart-in-the-bag sketch as well as the old-girlfriend's bachelorette party. These two were worth the price of admission! The nod to some PC mandate requiring inclusion of an 'alternate' lifestyle wasn't appreciated. John obviously had a different experience in Presque Isle than I did. The Black Box theater is nice enough. Quaint and useful for a small venue. The lighting and sound was also done well. I liked being very close to the 'action'. The actors were the strongest part. I enjoyed the effective characters, and well done emotion. The gals were better than the guys, but that's to be expected at this level. Overall, I wasn't disappointed, but it wasn't the play I'd hoped my wife and I would enjoy. We enjoyed the experience more than the play, but that's good too, right?
