    Breathtaking

by Dreeen on 6/8/11Music Hall of Williamsburg - Brooklyn

Alexander and Fam completely blew me away. I was led to the performance by my love for Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros and this performance came nothing short of that excellence. Thank you for the dancing, the smiles, the laughter and all the joy I could have asked for! Having Mumford & Sons show up for a bit was a nice touch as well.

Alexander and company was full of good vibes

by CaraLina on 6/4/11Bowery Ballroom - NEW YORK

This concert was so chill. I saw Edward Sharpe last year and was blown away and this concert definitely lived up to that one. Alexander's band was great and Jade was there singing too. They played a lot of Alexander songs, a few Edward Sharpes, and finished up with an enjoyable cover of Lean on Me. A perfect night

    Alex + Fam

by Altohombre on 6/4/11Music Hall of Williamsburg - Brooklyn

The opening act "He's My Brother She's My Sister" exceeded our expectations 10 fold! I have no idea why they are not on the radio like Sirius XM U or playing festivals yet. I have been to Coachella Music Festival twice and they should be playing there. Alexander and Fam was fantastic and made the crowd feel like we were a part of something great. The venue is perfect for a concert like this. We got there on time and got seats on the 2nd floor directly in front of the stage. It couldn't have been any better. Can't wait to go to this venue again.

    I never give reviews

by GreyRogue on 6/3/11Sixth and I Historic Synagogue - Washington

Not for movies on Netflix. Not for music on iTunes. And certainly not for live concerts. I have no doubts about saying that this was one of the top ten concerts I've ever been too. And I've seen a LOT of shows (note: the word Grey in my nickname). My guess is the intimate setting brought it over the top for me, but something tells me a larger venue would've made it even more inclusive and electrifying. Alexander is clearly the voice of this band, which seemed to cause a little tension among them. I suspect this is part of why they're so good. Every band member seems to bring something to the table - be it in backing vocals, keyboards, horns, guitar, bass, drums, etc. There's a sense of a revolution in their music - something fresh, positive and inspiring. Go see them.

    Weird, but awesome

by snogging on 6/3/11Sixth and I Historic Synagogue - Washington

I was surrounded by hippie-sters all night and it was wild. First band: He's My Brother She's My Sister was so freaking full of energy and there demeanor was perfect for the type of music they play. I mean come on, what is cooler than a tap dancer in a band?? NOTHING! And just when you think the night can't get any better, Alex Ebert comes out and sings his heart out despite constantly feeling like he was about to puke due to food poisoning. The coolest part of their show was when the whole band starts singing in harmonies with no need for instruments. It's kind of amazing that everyone in the band has a good enough voice to pull that off.

    They're now on repeat

by sbird on 6/3/11Sixth and I Historic Synagogue - Washington

Walking into the theatre, a slender woman in a shiny dress and tap shoes walked in ahead of me. "This should be fun," I thought. Boy, was I right. That slender woman was the tap dancing percussionist from He's My Brother, She's My Sister. She was just as enticing as the rest of the band members, including an incredible cellist, a man with glitter on his eyelashes and an intoxicating smile on the upright bass, a virtuoso on slide guitar, and of course siblings Rob and Rachel Kolar. They started in and never stopped through their set - high energy, knee-slapping tunes, and smiles all around. I bought their album on iTunes and have had it on repeat since. Alexander and Fam, however, left a bit to be desired. Perhaps I've been spoiled by the energy and Jim Morrison-like presence Alexander has exuded in Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros shows. Perhaps it was because Alexander said he had food poisoning and felt sick the entire show. But the energy just wasn't there. I will say that the cover they did at the end of "40 Day Dream" was incredible. I'd love more of that energy next time.

    Alexander and Fam was awesome!!!

by Samtjax on 6/2/11Music Hall of Williamsburg - Brooklyn

Alexander and Fam has a great backyard, knee slappin', communal sort of feel to it. The show was just fantastic, everyone was clapping and dancing. Also, Marcus Mumford of Mumford and Sons (anonymously) joined them on stage for a song, nice treat! My boyfriend and I had a great time, one of our favorite shows ever. The venue, Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn, NY was awesome too, great set up, lots of places to stand but still very intimate. The show we went to was sold out and we still didn't feel crowded. I would definitely see them again if I get the chance and we will definitely visit that venue again in the future. PS - The opening band was incredible too! One of the band members tap danced her heart out on top of a big drum in the center of the stage, it was awesome. The lead singers, really brother and sister, are great too. Overall a GREAT experience!

    A rare treat!

by Simonthekinkster on 6/2/11Bowery Ballroom - NEW YORK

I'm a recent fan of ES&MS and looked to see when they were coming to NY. Then I saw this Alexander and Family gig and signed up. Grabbed the Alexander album played it to death for a couple of days then... Second row from stage. An intimate, friendly, crowd, notable because I'm an old fart with grey hair and a bald head and everyone treated me sweetly. A no-set-list call 'em out and we'll play 'em format. New Alex tunes and a couple of brand new tunes from band members, a sit-on-the-floor singalong with Alex on the floor. Fun arrangements of tunes from "Alexander". Brilliant. Smiles all round. I don't know when Alexander and Family are doing other gigs, Austin City Limits I think is one, but it was very very good. I'm grateful I was here and it joins a few select gigs in my 'best of". I won't be tedious and list them. Sorry bout the pic, it's a cell shot.
