About

Since its 2009 formation, the small-town quintet known as Alabama Shakes has delivered a swampy blues rock that’s taken the mainstream Southern rock genre by storm. The Athens, AL, outfit, comprised of frontwoman/guitarist Brittany Howard, guitarist Heath Fogg, bassist Zac Cockrell, keyboardist Ben Tanner and drummer Steve Johnson, has released one album, 2012’s “Boys & Girls.” The ATO Records debut moved all the way to No. 8 on The Billboard 200 and has sold more than half a million copies to date. A sophomore set which the band spent the fall of 2013 working on may surface sometime in 2014.

Howard’s powerful vocals have drawn comparisons to Janis Joplin, while the driving soul of the band’s music has earned them famous fans like Jack White and Drive-By Truckers’ singer Patterson Hood. While the humble group has played support sets on tour with Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros and Mumford and Sons, ticket sales for their coast-to-coast headlining concerts has been high. Not to mention festival appearances at Bonnaroo Music Festival, Newport Folk Festival and Lollapaloozas in Brazil and Chile.

    not that great

by Anonymous on 8/28/17Thompson's Point - Portland

was disappointed in the amount of time Alabama shakes was on for the amount of money I spent on the ticket. The venue was great, the show not so much. The music that was played was more of their low key songs, I would have liked to see more variation.

Alabama Shakes puts on an amazing show!

by taeddy on 8/10/17The Palace Theatre Albany - Albany

After Emily King did a great job of warming up the audience, Brittany and the band played to a packed house at the Palace in Albany. They were amazing and had everyone on the floor standing, dancing and clapping along.

    Shaking Maine

    by Philly2MAine on 8/10/17Thompson's Point - Portland

So I was a bit worried that maybe the songs would run into each other - could not have been more wrong. Great show. forget the chair and blanket, stood and danced the whole show. Amazing right up to the end. The encore was cut short by the threat of incoming heavy weather (an outdoor venue) but The 'Bama' Shakes was one of the best shows I have been to.

    Amazing

by glassofwhisky on 8/9/17Thompson's Point - Portland

I stood in a dumping rain for this band and they didn't ever disappoint. She is such an amazing vocalist and despite the encroaching storm, it was one of the best shows I've been at.

    Shortened Event

    by Cascobay123 on 8/8/17Thompson's Point - Portland

The band itself was amazing, however, the concert was shortened and seemed rather rushed due to a pending storm. There wasn't a great deal of interaction with the audience, which I believe was a result of worrying about the weather. Overall, I'm slightly bummed that I spent so much on these tickets because the concert was so short and there was such little interaction. I could have just listened to the album through and through and that would have been the same as the concert. Overall, however, Alabama Shakes has so much talent and sounded great.

    The Shakes Killed It!

by ShermanPeabody on 8/8/17Thompson's Point - Portland

My first concert since high school and I completely loved the Alabama Shakes. The show was great and Brittany Howard hit ever single note! The whole entire band was spot on. Sound system was top notch at the venue and the light show was very enlightening in an awesome way. I would definitely go see them again. I really liked the venue as well. Thompson's Point in Portland is a very nice venue..They had to start the show early due to dangerous weather conditions and right after the encore we were asked to evacuate to our cars.

    Alabama Shakes

by KDPine on 8/8/17Blue Hills Bank Pavilion - Boston

I think the sound mix was terrible. To loud and to muddy, absolutely no distinction between the instruments. I wonder who does sound at this event, the band or is it house sound? Also the set was very short, barely 90 minutes. Brittany is definitely a powerful singer, very emotional on stage.
