About

AIR TRAFFIC CONTROLLER IN CONCERT:

When Boston indie rockers Air Traffic Controller take the stage, concertgoers are in for an upbeat experience packed with infectiously catchy music. The band uses an array of acoustic and electric instruments -- sometimes including an entire string section --  to recreate the huge, varied sound of their masterful recorded material. With bursts of folk and electro pop influences that recall The Decemberists and Matt and Kim, the band flawlessly executes sing-a-long indie tunes featuring strong hooks, poppy vibes, and singer Dave Munro's clever lyrics. Equally as entrancing is singer Casey Sullivan, who stuns audiences with a voice that is sometimes light and ethereal, and other times deep and smoky. With their hit-packed setlists that include crowd favorites like "You Know Me", "Hurry Hurry", and "The House", Air Traffic Controller always treats ticket buyers to unforgettable live performances.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Singer-songwriter Dave Munro was working as a real-life air traffic controller in the U.S. Navy when he started writing songs and recording demos on a four-track. He sent the songs to his friends and family in Boston, and by the time he returned home he already had an impressive fanbase in place. He decided to form a band and recruited his brother Richie Munro on drums, singer and bassist Casey Sullivan, and keyboardist and guitarist Steve Scott. The quartet released their debut album The One in 2009, earning rave reviews and a nomination for Best Break-Out Artist at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards. For their sophomore release, 2010's Nordo, the band teamed up with esteemed producer Bleu (Demi Lovato, Hanson, Boys Like Girls) and crafted a collection of hits including "You Know Me", which was named Best Indie Alternative Song by the Independent Music Awards. In 2014 they reteamed with Bleu to create their third album and co-headlined a tour with The Tragic Thrills, treating fans to amazing live shows.

After waiting for an hour for any of the bands to come on stage we gave up on this concert. We were excited to see these bands in such a cool venue, but got frustrated when there was absolutely no evidence that the show was ever going to start. I understand that concerts rarely (if ever) start on time, but after an hour of waiting we got tired of listening to a radio station over the sound system and called it quits.

Air Traffic Controller Rocks Great Original Songs!

by BK55 on 8/26/14Mercury Lounge - New York

The fabulous Boston group Air Traffic Controller returned to NYC, this time appearing at the Mercury Lounge last Saturday night near the end of a month long national tour. Lead singer and writer of most of their material, Dave Munro, gave a fine vocal performance and played acoustic, electric, and bass guitar on various songs and shared some vocals with their female bass and mandoline player who has also written at least one of their songs. Backed by his brother on drums and a lead guitarist and a violinist, this band creates a full and varied sound. Dave Munro's original compositions are truly melodic with really clever lyrics, a rare combination these days. The audience was very into this performance, standing, dancing, clapping. I hope it won't be long before they return to NYC.
