Good while it lasted, I guess.

by mikejpindc on 2/26/249:30 CLUB - Washington

I've been of fan of Miss Mann's for several years and was excited to finally see her perform live, especially in a cool venue like the 9:30 Club. It was a good show-- while it lasted. She only played about 1 hour, 20 minutes. She also didn't play "Wise Up,"a song I love and what I think if her most recognized song as a solo artist. Some fans even requested it but no matter. That put a little damper on the evening. Wasn't a bad concert by any means and I am glad I saw her but it sure left me wanting more.

    Couldn’t do better

by I’ve loved her since “Voices Carry” so….Godess?’ Couldn’t have done anything better -except a meet and greet after. Fantastic set list, love the slightly longer set and being at the 930 club!! on 2/26/249:30 CLUB - Washington

A fantastic show in the right venue

by ECLamb on 2/25/249:30 CLUB - Washington

Aimee Mann is at the top of her game — her voice is gorgeous, her band is sharp as knives, and the songs are mind-bending and heart-wrenching. I saw her with Jonathan Coulton at their last Birchmere show, which was also excellent, but I think 9:30 is a better venue for her — the standing audience is more responsive, and it's easier to share the vibe. I saw her in Philadelphia the night after this show, opening for Jason Isbell, and while she was great there, too, I'm glad I got to see her as a headliner.

Bass and drums are too loud

by Dissatisfied on 2/25/249:30 CLUB - Washington

Most of her songs are soft acoustic type performances yet the bass and drums are drowning out the songs… sounds ok on the louder rock songs but distracting during the others.

Terrific show, great sound. Aimee’s band was excellent. Opening act was fun and Aimee joined hin for a couple of songs. Very good setlist. Only wish they played longer.

    great music, horrible venue

    by Melanie on 8/8/23

Aimee Mann is arguably one of the finest singers and songwriters working today, and her music in this concert was wonderful, as always. Ditto Jonathan Coulton, whose songs are both witty and empathetic, and whose solo and harmony singing is superb. The setlist for Ms. Mann ranged from early solo work to her latest, all done with the grace, humor, and musicianship she has shown for decades. Alas, the venue. Just awful. I had to take at least one star off because there were too many things to ignore - for example, the official venue site saying that the concert would start at eight, but actually starting with Jonathan Coulton at 7:45. (Very disrespectful to Mr. Coulton.) There was absolutely no point to having General Admission for two performers whose music is decidedly not danceable. I ended up in the front of the Loge, as a disabled woman who uses a cane, having to climb stairs and use said cane while balancing a glass of wine - only to realize that the performers were so far away that I should have brought binoculars. Having 50 people or so standing directly at the stage was distracting, to say the least. The seating and general upkeep of the Loge left a lot to be desired - such as basic cleanliness. Loud-ish songs in Aimee's set sounded awful because there is no way to baffle sound in this hard-edged and hideous venue, distorting the music to the point of pain. As for what passed for "accessible"seating: it was at the rear of the General Admission section, leaving the people sitting there with no sightlines to speak of to the stage. Aimee and Jonathan - wonderful, both - deserve far better.

Great show - lots of fun, great sound

    by Aaron C on 8/8/23

Aimee Mann's voice hasn't changed a bit in the decades since her first albums. Fantastic show and the sound was amazing at this venue. Wish she'd include more of her older solo stuff off the first three albums, but well worth the price of a ticket for sure. Always entertaining, and her band are all top-notch.
