About

Verdi's operatic masterpiece is given a brilliant staging in this entirely new production by Woolmington. Featuring acclaimed Australian soprano Livia Brash in the title role, this tale of love and death set against the vastness of the Ancient Egyptian world is sung to the most vivid opera score ever written. This remarkable staging is a first for the Illawarra region and part of the season of Opera that brings the greatest music to the stage in an eclectic, exciting and edgy production that will set tongues wagging. A night to remember. The production is performed with two intervals of approximately 15 minutes each. Atmospheric effects including strobe lighting, smoke effects as well as nudity is incorporated into the production.

Could have been a little shorter.

by K. J. on 10/31/19San Diego Civic Theatre - San Diego

The performers had great voices but some parts were a little slow. My nineteen years old daughter slept through half of the performance and so does my husband. This was our first opera. We should go to one where we are familiar with the music like Carmen, La Boheme.

Good music, good choir and very good voices.

by lieber's on 10/30/19San Diego Civic Theatre - San Diego

The overall experience for us was dissenting because we did not know that we were going to an austere, simple, boring static AIDA, we have seen it at the MET and on screen and did not lie this version at all.

    Sublime

by CalgalSD on 10/29/19San Diego Civic Theatre - San Diego

Instrumentation and singing were superb. The range and depth of emotion shown by the performers in Aida was magical. I was transported to another time, another place...

    Good, but not great

by M. C. on 10/28/19San Diego Civic Theatre - San Diego

One of the things Aieda is known for are its sets and contimes. Not this time. They elected to put the orchestra on stage and thus eliminating the need (and expense) of the sets. Very disappointing, not what I expected.

    Good price for good tickets

by N. P. on 10/25/19San Diego Civic Theatre - San Diego

Cheapest tickets that I found online for some fairly good seats. Buying the parking ticket became a problem once we showed up to the parking garage though. Apparently I needed to print another ticket besides the tickets to the show. Which I didn’t have and had to pay for another $10 ticket. That was unfortunate but not a crazy price. Drinks were fairly expensive at the show, suggest pregaming a little if you want that sort of thing. Overall a very nice experience.

    Aida

by Azzurri on 10/23/19San Diego Civic Theatre - San Diego

The music and singing were magnificent! But there was no scenery. Outrageous! Aida is a grand opera that must be experienced visually as much as musically and vocally. Ridiculous to have the orchestra on stage and the singers in front of the orchestra. This left no room for scenery. Also, there was no dance of the priestesses, which is one of the most powerful visual and musical parts of this opera. I realize the SD opera house is not The Met, but it should have done a better job with Aida than it did.

    Super Title Failure

by KilahDW on 1/24/16Times Union Ctr Perf Arts Moran Theater - Jacksonville

Music, Performers and staging were excellent, however super titles were illegible. While very annoying, we were able to keep up because the playbill was easy to follow. Would give five stars if not for super title problems.

    Best Show ever

by Virsha on 5/27/13Detroit Opera House - Detroit

The best experince we ever had in a opera show. The actres were amazing with their play. The head singers really know their roles, and their felings were attacched to their play. Part of the success was the decor too. I think we can watch this show over and over without getting bored. Thank you for the best time we had.
