AFGHAN WHIGS IN CONCERT:

Blending experimental alternative rock with soul and R&B, the Afghan Whigs forged one of indie rock's most unique sounds during their heyday in the '90s. Reunited after a long hiatus and on tour in 2014, the band brings their layered instrumentation and frontman Greg Dulli's powerful voice to bear on a range of material at their live shows, from remixes of their early tracks to covers of the Fugees and Frank Ocean. Anchoring their live sets are classics from their catalog, drawing from six critically acclaimed albums of expansive, exploratory noir rock. With their first new album in more than 15 years slated for release in 2014, the Whigs are riding a considerable wave of excitement into their upcoming tour dates.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Formed in Ohio in 1986, the Afghan Whigs became the first band from outside the Pacific Northwest to join the region's legendary Sub Pop label, a bastion of critically acclaimed indie acts. Joining the ranks of bands like Sonic Youth and Mudhoney, the Whigs released their 1990 sophomore album Up In It to favorable reviews, scoring their first college radio hit with "Retarded." 1992's Congregation garnered even more attention, landing them a deal with Elektra that would result in 1993's Gentleman, the band's most commercially successful album and an MTV staple at the time. Following an amicable split in 2001, the band was virtually dormant for 10 years, breaking the silence in 2012 with several legendary reunion shows that set expectations for their 2014 tour dates sky high.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"Just an amazing show! Have never seen the Afghan Whigs better, and I go back to the early 80's as a fan of this group. I know they said it may be the last time they do this, but I hope the reunion continues."

"Great show. Greg Dulli's voice was in fine form. The band was very muscular and backing vocalists added powerful, soulful strength to night."

"They have been away far too long, but they're back and in prime form. Greg sounded great (very strong voice) and with six or seven guys now in the live band, they really bring a filled out sound."
