Named after his favorite cyclist, Djamolidine Abdoujaparov, Carter's new band shot back to the hedonistic '70s New York school of thought where passion superseded proficiency, but updating it with a dismissal of nihilistic pretension in favor of beer-and-mates revelry. Abdoujaparov also modernized punk's D.I.Y. production ethics: a formation of Carter's own record label avoided pressure from the majors and an Internet shareware distribution system made creation of home-recorded releases affordable and untouched. But the live interaction demanded the most attention. Building up a loyal fan base, the band did small tours of Britain in 1999 and -- a year later -- followed them up with the first full-length EP collection Djamolidin during their global treks through both Australia and America. ~ Dean Carlson, All Music Guide
