    Terrific!!!!!!

by Anonymous on 5/18/11Town Hall - New York

Hearing Kate McGarrigle' songs done in a variety of styles mostly outside of urban folk music, made me realize what an excellent song writer she was, both in terms of the music and the lyrics. The songs deserve to have a new life in the hands of other artists with varied styles. The singers were a mixture of family and friends of Kate or friends ofher children.

    All Stars Celebrated Kate McGarrigle

by 8Bayside on 5/16/11Town Hall - New York

As much as Kate was missed, the joy and harmony sung in her honor made this an outstanding celebration of her life and talent. Any mother would be proud of Rufus and Martha who sang with their hearts. Anna McGarrigle, Emmylou Harris, Norah Jones, Jenny Muldar, Teddie Thompson and Sloan Wainwright were exceptional as well.

Good show overall, evoking wonderful memories. Glad to have been introduced to Krystle Warren. Gripes; the intermission was way too long, the second half lost the pacing that the first half had, and Rufus lost some of the energy of his mother's songs by slowing down too many of them.

    Historic Gathering of Musical Talent

by FingerLakesLover on 5/16/11Town Hall - New York

Thought I was attending a Rufus Wainright concert. Instead it was a gathering of all who wanted to pay tribute to the late singer Kate McGarricle. Her family plus Emmy lou Harris, Norah Jones, Antony Hegarty, Teddy Thompson, Justin Vivian Bond, Krystle Warren, the novelist Michael Ondaatje and even Jimmy Fallon. New voices to me were Krystle Warren and Teddy Thompson, both awesome. Mid way through the talented novelist Michael Ondaatje did a reading from his book with mention to the McGarricle sisters and quoted Kate's song lyrics as part of the dialogue! What an amazing evening and the friendliest crowd ever gathered for a concert

    McGarrigle/Wainwright Talent Supreme

by UMJake on 5/16/11Town Hall - New York

Awesome. Bittersweet. Nostalgic. Eye-opening. Lively. Harmonies made in heaven - in fact, heaven is surely these harmonies. It was transcendent! All this intergenerational talent! Wowza.

    A Tribute to Kate

by GrandmaMare on 5/16/11Town Hall - New York

Kate McGarrigle's family really honored her in royal fashion in this tribute. Many of the musically endowed family and friends sang songs written by both Kate and her sister Anna. Some were previously unrecorded, all were entertaining and beautifully performed. The format was reminiscent of the McGarrigle Christmas Shows, where the friendly family atmosphere brought out the best in everyone. On the bill were Anna McGarrigle, Martha Wainwright, Rufus Wainwright, Emmylou Harris, Nora Jones, Antony, Jenni Muldaur, Teddy Thompson, Sloan Wainwright, Justin Vivian Bond, Krystle Warren, and Michael Ondaatje. From Montreal, Jane McGarrigle, Lily Lanken, Sylvan Lanken, Vincent Dow, Anna Dow, Dane Lanken and Kathleen Weldon made the trip down to join family and friends in the tribute. Proceeds will benefit the Kate McGarrigle Sarcoma Research Fund.

You could feel the love in the house

by 2Toronto4Rufus on 5/15/11Town Hall - New York

Talent, enthusiasm, professionalism and great songs. The very large cast of performers came out in different assemblages; played and sang Kate McGarrigle's songs with truly amazing voices, and in some cases, unique interpretations - an offering of love and respect to a beautiful talent. Obviously, she had been a huge presence in many of their lives. Someone was missing from this year's family get together on stage, but it didn't get maudlin and we all had a good time.
