    3 Great Bands!

by Debsabfab on 9/29/13Ak-Chin Pavilion - Phoenix

We weren't there for the entire event, and we just saw the last 3 bands - Halestorm, Volbeat and Avenged Sevenfold. They were all fantastic. Halestorm really put on a great show - Lzzy sounded great live and really knows how to put on a show. I liked them before, but seeing them live officially made me a fan! I would go see just them, not just as part of a bigger lineup. I already loved Volbeat, and was not disappointed by them live. At first, the energy seemed a little low - I think a lot of the concert-goers weren't really familiar with them. Once they played more recognizable songs, the crowd's energy picked up, and so did Volbeat's. They didn't play my absolute favorite song, Fallen, but I don't think that song really fits in with the overall feel of Desert Uprising. Finally, Avenged Sevenfold took the stage...and they were amazing as always! My husband, who isn't as big of a fan of theirs as I am, had never seen them and I have been telling him for a while now that he should. He turned to me after the first song and said "you were right". They are one of the best live bands out there right now - they sound great, have great energy and M. Shadows is a top-notch frontman. They played songs from all over their extensive discography and got the crowd involved. I would see them every time they are in town, which isn't often enough. The only slightly disappointing part was because it was an all-day festival and the show had to be finished by 11:00 due to the noise ordinance, they could not play as long as I would have liked.

Avenged Sevenfold made the night amazing!

    by Kimosan52 on 9/22/13Ak-Chin Pavilion - Phoenix

The concert was overall great. The only thing I can complain about was the VIP. We purchased the VIP passes thinking we would have backstage access. Unfortunately all VIP didn't have access, and that disappointed everyone I talked to that had VIP..

    Alice in Chains was Great!

by JJdesert on 9/17/13Ak-Chin Pavilion - Phoenix

Let me preface this review by stating for the record that I HATE, HATE, HATE festival shows. I'm very particular about who I like to see in concert, and I tend to get bored sitting through the performances of bands that aren't among my favorites. Therefore I think it's a waste of money to pay for a show featuring 8-10 bands, while I only show up to watch the last one or two and am subsequently rewarded with a shorter-than-usual set. However I couldn't let an opportunity to see AIC pass me by so I sucked it up and shelled out $99 (+ the obligatory TM fees) to see the show. I arrived right before Jane's Addiction; they sounded good and I actually like a handful of their songs, so they were definitely worth seeing. Their stage show was a little on the freaky side, not that there's anything wrong with that. Then came the headliner. Alice in Chains sounded fantastic and I enjoyed the setlist immensely. I was glad to see William DuVall act the part of lead singer as Jerry Cantrell handled much of the vocals during their first reunion tour - not that he isn't a great singer, but they hired a new lead singer for a reason. I would have liked a few more songs, which they probably would have played had this been their headlining tour instead of a festival, but I digress.

    Pathetic VIP experience

by VIPJOKE on 9/17/13Ak-Chin Pavilion - Phoenix

We had a horrible VIP experience, barely anything promised was delivered! The bands sounded great, the only good part of the day. I can't upload any pics since someone also stole my camera.

    Long live Desert Uprising

by patiness on 9/16/13Ak-Chin Pavilion - Phoenix

For me the best bands were Halestorm and Volbeat. Avenged Sevenfold's pyro show was awesome.

Desert Uprising needs to be an Arizona tradition

    by Dano84 on 9/16/13Ak-Chin Pavilion - Phoenix

Honestly, I attend a lot of 98KUPD's shows and they're usually all pretty great. 98 does a good job of getting good rock shows to the valley. That said, when they created last years Desert Uprising, it was awesome. For the first time really, Arizona had a two day rock fest which usually stays reserved for bigger places like California. It's awesome they were able to bring that to town for us. So this years was no different and I'm glad we had a second one. I think we need to have one like this every year at the end of summer. I've heard people complain about the line up on one day or the other, but that's not in control all the time. For instance, day one was a stop by the rock alligence tour and day two was the original Uproar tour listing. I think this is a great way to bring a good time to all the people of Arizona and it's definitely a good way to end the summer for us. Time to make sure we do this every year.

    "Well Aveneged"

by Devildog on 9/16/13Ak-Chin Pavilion - Phoenix

For the second straight year and for the second installment of Desert Uprising, day one has been better than Mayhemfest. A great show is always defined by it's lineup, and this years day one lineup was as good as it gets. Second stage aside which show cased the amazing Airbourne, the main stage was loaded. Halestorm Volbeat and Avenged Seven Fold was far and away worth the price of the ticket. Although Desert Uprising is a newer festival, it is making a great name for itself. If they keep the stellar lineups coming, this will be the premier event for summers to come.
