3RP festival in Pittsburgh was incredible!

by 1after909 on 8/18/09Pepsi Cola Roadhouse - Burgettstown

We attend most Prog festivals and this one was amazing! The variety of music was great. Loved the fact that they mixed it up, as we follow many types of music. Saw Crack The Sky a few times before. They are so not used to the sit down crowd. Was really funny to see them in that environment.. Same with King's X. Only a few people had seen them before. Had to stop sing along as no one knew the words except a few die hard fans. They were incredible!

A must for prog rock fans

by Kdb3 on 8/13/09Pepsi Cola Roadhouse - Burgettstown

I was a little leary of the venue - looked to me to be more a banquet hall than a concert hall. I really wanted to see Glass Hammer and, knowing they don't perform much, took a chance and flew from Florida to Pittsburgh. The venue is out in the middle of nowhere, small and dark. There couldn't have been more than a couple hundred in the audience at any one time. Everyone milled around while the bands set up and did their sound check. The whole thing seemed like a bunch of bands just setting up and playing for friends at a party. The sound system was excellent. Acoustically, the room was very good. Every seaty was a good seat. The bands were phenominal. I enjoyed every second of the experience and will attend next year.

    Wonderful 2-day Prog-Rock Heaven

by rickdoogie on 8/12/09Pepsi Cola Roadhouse - Burgettstown

Thanks to Howard for pulling together 10 wonderful bands (plus the outdoor tent bands). I would highly recommend this type of event for any progressive rock fan. It's a weekend full of strange and wonderful music, with the added bonus of lots of "meet and greet" with various band members who are hanging out after their set. And it's so nice to socialize with fellow prog-rock fans, and make a few new musical friends.

    Great and unforgettable!

by B3Key on 8/12/09Pepsi Cola Roadhouse - Burgettstown

I came from Switzerland to attend this festival, and it was worth every second and each cent. The main reason to come was Glass Hammer playing live. But all the other acts were outstanding, specially Persephone's Dream, IQ and Singularity. But also the teen prog rock band Gravity. I was stunned by the sheer professionality and dedication of all musicians involved. These great memories will last forever.

    NEVER thought it could happen!

by OleTroll on 8/10/09Pepsi Cola Roadhouse - Burgettstown

WAY cool event! Bands did vary a bit but festivals really should be that way. EXCELLENT and comfortable venue... good seating and great sound. Nice people... everyone looked to be having a ball. Before wife & I went I would never believe a good, REAL progressive rock festival could come off around Pittsburgh but Howard (Mr. 3RP) pulled it off! Lots of standing Ov's for some bands which seemed to floor them! Everybody was keyed into it. I left a better person! Cars in the lot from all over North America. We all sang "Happy birthday" to a guy who flew in from California as his B-day present to himself. He went BOTH years it's been held. YOU should go next year! It's always been in August up to now. If you like Spock's Beard, Flower Kings, IQ, Glass Hammer and their ilk, show up and join the party!

    3RP Progfest

by Vince2009 on 8/10/09Pepsi Cola Roadhouse - Burgettstown

10 great bands (+ bonus bands) over 2 days. It's just a DREAM. As always the format included newer/less known bands to discover (at least as far as I am concerned) and big headliners. Nobody was bad, but some bands were more in the category of "opening bands" (and placed there accordingly). Some of the bands I didn't know were a great discovery: PHIDEAUX and SIZYGY in particular were spectacular and I think they found a lot of new fans at that festival. Great craftsmanship, guitar (and also keybord and drum) HEROES and great voices. People who have the skills and who can put them together for a very artistic and outstanding result. The headliners didn't disappoint either: IQ and GLASS HAMMER were outstanding, and IT BITES was excellent as well, albeit more "pop" (but it's a question of personal taste and opinion at some point). KING'S X was great too but not every one puts them in their top 5 (again, a question of personal taste - but a positive point for a festival to include diverse styles or substyles). Add to this a pretty good sound in the venue, very friendly and down to earth crowd of people who are there because they love music and love to share it, the ability to meet the bands, chat and get autographs. This is beyond the average concert goer expectations, but not unexpected for a prog festival. In 3 words IT WAS GREAT - and my last words to say DON'T MISS IT NEXT YEAR
